An intentional classroom turns everyday routines into rich learning moments and helps your first day, and every day after, run smoothly with Experience Curriculum. Well-placed materials invite children to actively take part, a well-organized room helps them know what to expect, and dedicated spaces give them tools to recognize their feelings and self-regulate.
This article covers five spaces to prep: your curriculum hub, Circle Time display, Calming Corner, daily schedule, and drop-off area.
Before diving in
When you receive your curriculum, there are two quick habits that make curriculum prep faster all year long:
Don’t open everything at once: Your kit arrives organized by week. Cut the top of each bag open, but keep the contents together so they’re easy to find later.
Reference your Gathering List: As you sort materials for the week or month, set aside a spot for any extra supplies you’ll need for activities and Circle Time.
Quick start checklist to take when you receive your materials:
☑️ Choose the organization method that fits your space
☑️ Prep materials (cut, sort, laminate) as you go
☑️ Keep bag contents together
☑️ Set aside a spot for Gathering List supplies.
4 ways to organize your curriculum
Every program is different. We recommend picking the system that fits your space and style:
Build your Circle Time display
Your Circle Time display gives children a daily spot to explore the calendar, weather, letters, numbers, and feelings.
Two kits work together to stock your display all year long:
💡 Tip: Use the display all day. Let children rotate as calendar or weather helper, check the Weather Station before outdoor play, and sing the alphabet song while pointing to the letters.
Steps to set up a Circle Time display
Choose a surface, like a tri-fold board, bulletin board, or blank wall
Place it where the whole group can see it, at children’s eye level
Laminate pieces so they last through daily use
Add your Getting Started Kit pieces, then this month’s Circle Time Bag pieces
What a complete Circle Time display looks like
A complete display has eight pieces: Weather Station, Calendar Grid, Theme Poster, Daily Topic Poster, Character Trait, Letter and Number Cards, Alphabet Strip, and Feelings Check-in.

Build a Calming Corner
A Calming Corner is a cozy spot where a child can reset after a busy or noisy moment, like drop-off or music time. It’s a place to reset, not a time-out, and it builds self-regulation skills.
How to build it:
Choose the spot on purpose and set clear expectations for using it.
Keep it cozy: A cushion, rug, or pillows define the space.
One child at a time: Keep it small and calm.
Start small: Add a Feelings Check-in, 2 to 3 calming tools, and family photos.
Plan your schedule and welcome families
It’s important to have a strong schedule and routines set. Schedules are the big picture of your day, like Circle Time, outdoor play, and snack, while routines are the steps inside each part, like transitions, songs, calendar, weather, and topic discussions.
We recommend posting a picture schedule so children can see what comes next. Predictable days help children feel secure and ready to learn.
Tips to make drop-off welcoming
When designing a drop-off experience, it’s important to think about what children and families should see as they walk through your door to set the tone for the day and ease anxious arrivals.
We have a few ideas to help:
💡 “Ready to Play” table: Simple materials, like cotton balls and tweezers.
💡 Topic of the Day: Post the Daily Topic Poster on your door to engage students right away, then move it to Circle Time.
💡 Sign-in table: Children write or trace their name on a name tag and clip it to a board.
💡Family info board: Show families your plan so they feel confident.
Day 1 checklist
To summarize and prepare for day one, start with your Circle Time Display and Calming Corner, write out your schedule, and set up a warm drop-off area. Your classroom environment will do a lot of the teaching for you.
Use the checklist below to help guide your setup.
☑️ Circle Time: pick an eye-level spot and add your Getting Started Kit and monthly pieces
☑️ Calming Corner: add a cushion and 2 to 3 calming tools in a quiet spot
☑️ Schedule: write out your daily schedule and post a picture version
☑️ Drop-off: set up a sign-in table, “Ready to Play” table, and family info board
